THE most disadvantaged people in Douglas Shire will have a Christmas feast thanks to the generosity of local businesses and the continued support of Douglas Shire Council.
Council has resolved to provide $500 and use of the Mossman Shire Hall to the Douglas Shire Community Services Association (DSCSA) for the next three years.
About 70 residents experiencing financial disadvantage, homelessness and/or loneliness attend the volunteer-run event every year.
About 30 volunteers host the Community Christmas Day Lunch.
The DSCSA will host their 12th annual Christmas lunch this year.
Mayor Julia Leu said this is a great opportunity for all businesses and the community to celebrate the spirit of giving at Christmas time.
“We hope the community gets behind this event and also the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal to support people in our great community,” she said.
