The band guaranteed to “bring it” to their live performances with smash hits like Black Betty, Calypso, and Buy Me a Pony will headline Port Douglas Carnivale’s Tropic Rock Concert at Rex Smeal Park next year on Saturday, May 23.
Spiderbait, the formidable alternative rockers will deliver their classic hits to the Carnivale 2020 event line-up, which will run from May 22 to 24, with the extended festival of events kicking off from May 15.
Considered Australian rock icons, Spiderbait are one of just a handful of artists that have enjoyed success across both mainstream and alternative rock music scenes.
Julia Leu, Mayor of the Douglas Shire, said the trio had enjoyed a three decade-long career, topping Australia’s Aria charts and triple j’s Hottest 100, along with sold out shows around the country.
“They are one of Australia greatest rock bands who deliver phenomenal live shows and their popularity shows no signs of abating.
“They have released seven acclaimed albums, which have all racked up gold, platinum or double platinum status and have combined Australian sales of over one million units.
“Spiderbait were part of the alternative heyday of the ’90s, a period that left a legacy on Australian music fans and no doubt the news they will be performing at Port Douglas Carnivale will draw the crowds.”
Mayor Leu said the announcement today of Spiderbait helped round out the 2020 Carnivale program, which will see the return of the Wonderland Spiegeltent, The Longest Lunch, Seafood Extravaganza, Family Beach Day and crowd favourite The Macrossan Street Parade.
“The theme for this year’s event is Exotic and Tropic, giving full licence to participants explore their inner alluring, colourful, bizarre, enchanting and mysterious selves.
“The tropic and exotic theme will be a guide for the popular Friday night street parade down Macrossan Street as well as other events during Carnivale – we expect plenty of tropical shirts and a lot of exotic flare,” Mayor Leu added.
