City of Darwin together with Arts Access Darwin has today opened the latest Lightbox Exhibition at the Nightcliff Pool.
The Lightbox Exhibition has installations across Darwin - Citylife Platforms in the Mall, Chinatown Carpark and at the Nightcliff Pool.
The exhibition, titled ‘Who We Are’, showcases artwork from 10 Darwin artists with disabilities exploring the theme of identity.
The exhibition was officially opened by Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis and attended by the artists and their families.
“City of Darwin has been involved in this project with Arts Access Darwin for many years,” said Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis “and it is a privilege to open this fantastic exhibition today.”
“The Lightboxes we have across the city bring vibrancy and energy to our public spaces and the artwork displayed in them showcases the talents of these artists.”
The Exhibition includes artwork from the following Artists:
Abigail Maralngurra Tara Darcy William Mareko John Milikens Roger Yambeing Samantha Callaghan Mark Cavanagh Manoli Lafazanis Annie Moors Joanne van Roden.Lord Mayor also announced that Arts Access Darwin will be partnering with City of Darwin to deliver public art as part of the Jingili accessible playground redevelopment. Arts Access Darwin has been awarded a grant of nearly $140, 000 through the NDIS Information, Linkages and Capacity building (ILC) program which supports the economic participation of people with disability.
The Jingili Playground project will see 6 artists with disability working as the newly formed Free Space Studio Public Art Collective’ to deliver an innovative new public artwork.
Developing partnerships with disability training agencies is a key action within City of Darwin’s Access and Inclusion Plan 2019 – 2022, which aims to create a more connected community, working collaboratively to deliver access and inclusion opportunities for all.
