City of Darwin is hosting free family events across the city as part of National Children’s Week celebrations, concluding 27 October, 2019.

Acting Lord Mayor Simon Niblock said that Council is proud to be hosting a range of free programs and activities for families to join and have fun.

“National Children’s Week celebrates the right for all children to enjoy their childhood. It is a time for children to explore their talents, skills and abilities while having fun,” the Acting Lord Mayor said.

City of Darwin has been supporting National Children’s Week for more than 10 years and in 2019 will be hosting an Art Exhibition and two Family Fun events.

The City of Darwin Children’s Art Exhibition opened on Saturday 19 October at the Civic Centre, Harry Chan Avenue, and showcases artwork from children up to 12 years of age.  The exhibition is open from Monday 21 October to Friday 15 November, between 8.30am and 4.30pm.

Two Free Family Fun Events are also being held as part of the celebrations – at Jingili Water Gardens and at Darwin Waterfront.

The first event is being held at Jingili Water Gardens on Wednesday 23 October, from 9am to midday for children from 0-5 years. The Fun Bus will be in attendance with a waterslide, jumping castle, storytelling, DJ, clown and puppet show, arts and crafts and a free sausage sizzle.

The second event is being held on Saturday 26 October at Darwin Waterfront, from 3.00-6.00pm, with a free movie to follow at 7pm, for children 1-12 years. Activities will include Fun Bus, waterslide, disco, African drummer, float and play in the lagoon, arts and crafts, Burning Circus – circus workshop and new release movie ‘Missing Link’.
