Darwin Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis will today join Northern Territory Chief Minister Michael Gunner and more than 50 Territory business and Industry Association representatives and officials travelling to China on the Reaching South delegation.
Joining them is City of Darwin CEO Scott Waters and General Manager of Innovation, Growth and Development, Josh Sattler.
The purpose of the Reaching South delegation is to develop and strengthen economic, tourism and cultural ties between China and the Northern Territory.
“City of Darwin is delighted to be attend the Reaching South delegation to China; a great initiative of the Northern Territory Government,” said Lord Mayor Vatskalis.
“Reaching South provides a unique opportunity to connect with key business people and decision-makers in China to promote the Northern Territory.”
“As the City of Darwin, we will be focussing on highlighting Darwin’s many positive attributes; as a wonderful city to visit, study and do business.”
City of Darwin is celebrating a 30 year relationship with Sister City Haikou in 2020 and this visit provides further opportunities to grow cultural ties between the two cities.
For the first time a First Nations representative will be attending a delegation as a guest of City of Darwin.
“We are delighted that Larrakia Elder Richard Fejo will be accompanying City of Darwin on this delegation.” said Lord Mayor Vatskalis “We believe this demonstrates the importance we place on continuing to grow cultural ties between our two countries.”
The delegation will be in China for 8 business days, visiting Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Haikou and Qingdao from 16 October - 27 October.
