With the end of year fast approaching, so too is Christmas and along with that comes the creation and installation of fun, festive Christmas decorations throughout Campaspe Shire.
Mayor Cr Adrian Weston said council has been working with community and business groups to create and install decorations in the lead up to Christmas.
“Working closely with the community ensures each town is decorated the way residents would like it done,” Cr Weston said.
The Rochester community has rallied together and come up with an environmentally friendly initiative that sees unused and unwanted bicycle wheels repurposed into Christmas tree frames.
Local resident Heather Darbyshire is the mastermind of the project and says her group would love the help of the community to decorate the wheels that form a Christmas tree.
“We would love the community to support the project by adding their mark through painting or decorating one or more wheels before they go up,” Mrs Darbyshire said.
Rushworth have also created a community project this year engaging the local men’s shed, through the Rushworth Community House to make Christmas trees frames out of recycled metal.
Organiser Heather Wellington said the project is a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate such a festive occasion.
“We’d love to see as many people join us in beautifying our town decorations to add their own personal touch to make our town look festive,” Ms Wellington said.
In Tongala, the Christmas murals and wishing tree will once again make an appearance in the main street with the new addition of a 3D stack of presents.
Echuca Moama Business & Trades and Kyabram Chamber of Commerce are working with local companies to create a ‘selfie station’ that will encourage customers to stop and enjoy the space while shopping in their local CBD.
“The festive season is a wonderful time of year, and it’s great to see residents out and about celebrating,” Cr Weston said.
Decorations will be installed by early December and will be taken down in the New Year.
