On Monday 11 November 2019, the Tennant Creek community gathered at the Tennant Creek RSL sub-branch to commemorate the end of the first World War.
The service included a hymn "Oh God Our Help in Ages Past", Welcome to Country and poem by Kym Brahim, a commemorative address by Councillor Kris Civitarese, a speech by Nicole Civaterese on an unknown soldier, an address by Mayor Steve Edgington, and was also attended by Father John Kennedy.
The one-minute silence was observed to honour those fallen in the battles of the war, and the three flags - The Australian National Flag, The Northern Territory Flag and The Aboriginal Flag - were raised by Trent Wilson, Graham Stinson and Kym Braham respectively.
The service was an opportunity for members of the community to reflect, commiserate and continue acknowledging the legacy of national service in a time of international crisis during World War I.
