Wyndham City elected Cr Josh Gilligan to take on the top job of Mayor for the next 12 months at last night’s (November 13th) Statutory Council Meeting.
The 26-year old councillor is looking forward to bringing a “fresh generational change” to Council. Cr Gibbons was also elected to the position of Deputy Mayor for the second year.
“I will work tirelessly and be a fierce advocate for our City and ensure the work we started at the beginning of this Council’s term is completed in the coming year.”
Cr Gilligan said the Council had long advanced from being just about “rates, roads and rubbish” and will continue to develop to ensure the needs of the ever-growing community are met.
“With the $2.2 billion building approvals granted in Wyndham in the past financial year, our growth is second to that of Melbourne CBD,” Cr Gilligan said.
“We are not going to just become a city of housing, but a place for people to live, thrive and proudly call home.”
“We have exciting new ventures in store from trackless trams and sustainable cities as well as clear plans on how we are going to create more jobs for local people.”
“I look forward to seeing Council’s existing, new, and long-term projects develop in the coming year.”
“I would like to thank my friends and family for supporting me in this journey and my fellow councillors who have put their trust in me to lead this Council into 2020.”
“Congratulations must also go to Cr Mia Shaw and Cr Gibbons who served us well as Mayor and Deputy Mayor in the last year.”
Cr Gilligan is Council’s Learning City Portfolio Holder and as Wyndham City Mayor, he will also take on the Growth and Transport portfolio.
Deputy Mayor, Cr John Gibbons, is Council’s Tourism and Major Events portfolio holder.
