Two Shire of Harvey rising sports stars have been recognised for their outstanding athletic ability at the South West Academy of Sport’s annual awards night.
Netball star Giselle Taylor took out top honours being crowned Sports Star of the Year at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre on Friday, November 8 and Brooke Repacholli was named the 2019 DLGSC Emerging Star for her outstanding netball skills.
Harvey Shire Council President Paul Gillett received the LG recognition award on behalf of the Shire for its long term support of SWAS.
“It was great to see these outstanding junior athletes recognised at the SWAS awards last Friday night,” he said.
“It is important we continue to provide and improve our outstanding facilities to enable these young people the opportunity to pursue a range of sporting careers.”
SWAS chief executive officer Bernice Butlion, who was honoured on the night for her outstanding service, congratulated all award winners.
“The quality of our award winners – and out athletes in general – is testament to the deep pool of talent in the South West, along with the high level of support offered here in the region,” Butlion said.
“The award winners have made us proud and we wish them well as they continue to pursue sporting careers.”
