Keep pets happy during New Year cheer

Pet owners are encouraged to take extra care to ensure their pets are safe during the Christmas and New Year holiday period.
Council often receives enquiries from distressed residents whose dogs or cats have run away when they become frightened during fireworks or summer thunder storms.
There are a number of measures residents can take to ensure their pets stay safe.
Most importantly, ensure your pet is registered and microchipped and all details are up to date. This will ensure you can be reunited with your pet. Provide a safe, comfortable and familiar environment and ensure fences, gates and doors are secure. Consider staying home with your pet. Bring your pet indoors.Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said if your pet goes missing and is microchipped, Council rangers can reunite you with your pet.
“Pets are important members of our families and we know how heartbreaking it can be when they go missing,” Mayor Carbone said.
“Microchipping and ensuring your details are up to date ensures owners can be found when a vet, animal shelter or Council scans the chip of a lost pet.”
All cat and dog owners are required by law to microchip and register their pets. The process is easy. Pets can be registered or details updated at www.petregistry.nsw.gov.au.
