Livingstone moves into recovery mode as residents assess bushfire damage

While the majority of fires have now been contained in Livingstone, the community is being encouraged to not be complacent and keep an eye out for their mates as residents move into the recovery phase.
Local Disaster Management Group Chair and Mayor Bill Ludwig said although the immediate disaster crisis had passed, people still needed to be vigilant and ensure that they continue to assist in keeping our community safe.
“As a community, we now need to focus on recovery and providing every support possible to those residents impacted by this devastating disaster while continuing to assist those engaged in the long and challenging clean-up operations,” Mayor Ludwig said.
“Residents are being urged that, while the fire danger rating has been downgraded to high, a total fire ban remains in place, and it is vital for everyone to remain aware of potential fire threats until the region receives significant rain.
“The ‘Community Recovery Hub’ at Beaman Park, will continue to be a drop in centre, open seven days a week from 9am – 5pm, where affected residents can receive advice and support in getting back on their feet, along with vital information on grants and assistance available to aid in their recovery.
“Council has now activated its four recovery taskforces working in close partnership with multiple agencies and community groups to oversee and manage the short, medium and long-term effects of this disaster on our community.
“Support agencies have advised that we can expect to see significant prolonged psychosocial, mental, and financial stress experienced by those residents most impacted.
“This situation has been made worse by the cumulative effect of the multiple disasters over recent years.
“Council will continue to work pro-actively to facilitate and coordinate the recovery effort to ensure those in greatest need get help as swiftly as possible.”
