Entrance Point, Simpsons Beach and Reddell Beach in Broome have been closed to swimmers following a confirmed Irukandji jellyfish sting.
The victim was treated at Broome Regional Hospital after being stung at Entrance Point just after 5pm on Sunday 17 November.
The closure will remain in place for 24 hours, with warning signs in place for a further 72 hours after re-opening.
Shire of Broome Acting Manager Health, Emergency and Ranger Services, Andrew Waters, said this reinforced the need for taking precautions when entering the water for any reason.
“People should always be cautious when swimming, fishing in the water or launching boats, and take precautions including wearing stinger suits and carrying vinegar,” Mr Waters said.
“Stings are most commonly recorded between November and May but have been recorded in all months of the year.”
