Gold Coast aims to break world record for most sand angels

Forget snow angels – the Gold Coast will set out to break the world record for Most People Making Sand Angels Simultaneously this summer.
Gold Coasters are encouraged to lend a hand in the sand and show off their sand-angel making skills on Friday 22 November.
The current record stands at 1387 people and is held by Ludington in Michigan, USA.
We are Gold Coast and Groundwater Country Music Festival have partnered to support charity Drought Angels, with gold coin donations welcome on the day.
Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate encouraged Gold Coasters to rally together and help make history for the city.
“The current record is held by a city without a stunning ocean beach front like the Gold Coast – c’mon Gold Coast, let’s beat them and show them who’s the best in the world.
“I know the Gold Coast community is compassionate and up for any challenge. This is a wonderful opportunity to have some fun and do your bit to support our Aussie farmers and rural communities in need,” said Mayor Tate.
Groundwater Country Music Festival Director Mark Duckworth said proceeds raised on the day would go directly to Drought Angels.
“Participation for the world record is free, however we’re encouraging Gold Coasters to dig deep and donate to this worthy cause on the day of the event.”
Drought Angels Director and Co-Founder Tash Johnston said it was touching to see the beach come together and give a helping hand to the bush.
“Donations on the day will help us keep our Aussie farmers on their land, support their families and our rural communities during hardship.
“Every dollar and angel counts, so come down on the day and be someone’s angel.”

Time: 6am registration for a 6.40am record attempt.
Where: Kurrawa Beach, Old Burleigh Road, Broadbeach
Getting there: Catch the G:Link to the ‘Broadbeach North’ station, or if you’re a local, why not walk, ride, scoot or skate to the event. There is also limited street parking available.
