City of Ballarat Mayor Cr Ben Taylor has welcomed news Regional Rex has acquired ST Aerospace Academy (Australia) Pty Ltd (STAA(A) located at the Ballarat Airport.

“This is fantastic news for Ballarat – Regional Express (Rex) is Australia’s largest independent regional airline and for them to have a presence here is a major coup,” Cr Taylor said.

“The City of Ballarat has a long held vision for expansion and critical upgrades at the Ballarat Airport to bring it up to a standard that means it can better connect our city with the region and the rest of the country.

“To this end the City of Ballarat will explore the possibilities for funding offered by the Federal Government's $100 million Regional Airports Fund, including allowing larger aircraft to land, attracting new aviation-based industries and providing a longer term capacity to accommodate emergency services and a regional passenger service.

“I would also like to thank STAA(A) for their valuable work in training new pilots at the airport over the past decade to such rigorous standards that it has made the Ballarat academy a renowned centre of pilot training excellence.”
