Central Highlands Regional Council will overhaul 110 water hydrants across the region and bring peace of mind to firefighters and customers.
Contractor Goodline will carry out the work between November 2019 and June 2020 and people may have their water supply switched off for one to two hours. Affected households and businesses can expect to receive a letter before work starts.
Overhauling and replacing hydrants will not only provide reliable water access to firefighters and customers but save water. Most of the hydrants are anywhere from 30 to 70 years old and are either not working anymore or are leaking.
Council funds the project with $1.035 million of capital budget. The work will take place in Anakie, Blackwater, Bluff, Capella, Emerald, Rubyvale, Rolleston, Springsure and Tieri.
