An application for Development Approval has been approved for a Renewable Energy Facility on Lot 0 Campbell Road, Benger and will now be passed onto the Southern Joint Development Assessment Panel.
The application was referred to Council at its meeting on 27 August 2019 to determine that a Renewable Energy Facility may be consistent with the purpose and objectives of the Intensive Farming zone.
Harvey Shire Council President Paul Gillett said the $200 million investment in the region would create around 250 jobs during the construction period.
“There will be a greater necessity for an ongoing workforce and new businesses to be opened to satisfy the increased population demand during the development, construction and operational phases of the solar farm,” Cr Gillett said.
“We may see an increase in tourism from visitors that are interested in viewing the new solar farm and school tours are welcome to visit the Shire of Harvey to view the solar farm.”
Cr Gillett said this was a fantastic development for the region and positive to see another sustainable power supply to improve the grid network and potentially supply existing and future private industries.
Construction is likely to take place in 2021/2022.
