Queens Park Stage 5 upgrade sheds new light on Dog Off Leash Park

An upgrade to lighting and security at the Queens Park Dog Off-Leash park will allow our furry friends to exercise at night. The project that is part of Stage 5 upgrades will include the installation of five new light poles, two of which will have CCTV cameras attached.

Toowoomba Regional Council Parks and Recreation Services portfolio leader Cr Joe Ramia said the upgrade will improve community safety and provide more links to the City Centre through the Park.

“The programmed works that are part of Stage 5 upgrades, would include expansion of pathway lighting in the Dog Off-Leash area and expansion of City Safe infrastructure,” Cr Ramia said.

“Pedestrian access along most footpaths will be maintained during construction, however, the footpath running diagonally from the Central Amenities to the Botanic Gardens may at times have sections closed off to enable works to take place.

“The dog off-leash park will remain open during the construction period and the adjacent footpath will be fenced off during the upgrade.

“The park area north of the Lindsay Street carpark may be partially cordoned off to facilitate construction work.

“Construction work is anticipated to commence on Monday 25 November and take approximately three weeks to complete, weather permitting. Works are scheduled to be undertaken between 6.30 am – 6.30 pm on weekdays.

“There may be a requirement to undertake some weekend and night works. Council will seek to minimise disruptions where possible.

“The community should be aware that vehicles will need to access the construction site. This will mean that some sections of the park may, at times, be closed in the interests of public safety.

“We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience during the upgrade.

“The Stage 5 works are the latest in ongoing improvements outlined in Council’s $12 million Queens Park Master Plan Implementation Project, designed to enhance public facilities while maintaining the unique features of the city’s premier park

“Queens Park attracts tens of thousands of visitors each year for community celebrations, sporting activities and family outings. The park has a long and proud history and Council has carried out extensive planning to preserve the park’s distinctive cultural heritage values.”

The Queens Park Stage 5 Master Plan Improvement Works is a joint initiative of the Toowoomba Regional Council and the Queensland Government. In November 2017, Council received State Government funding of $1.288 million to assist with the construction of the Stage 5 project works through the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program.
