Council has granted the current tenant of Northpoint café a 21 year lease and an extension of their operating hours in exchange for rebuilding the facility.
The new operating hours will allow for a dinner service and remain open until 9:30 pm Monday to Wednesday, 10:00 pm Thursday and Sunday, and 11:00 pm Friday and Saturday nights. Any extension to the liquor licence will be restricted to patrons consuming alcohol with meals, it will not operate as a bar.
The café owner is currently going through the planning permit process for the demolition and rebuilding of the café and has applied for an extension of their liquor licence.
The proposed new facility will still be single storey and has only a slight increase on the current footprint (taking up the existing staff car park at the rear). Part of the upgrade will include a drop off area for people living with disability in front of the café and a new accessible public toilet.
Should the tenant be unsuccessful in obtaining a planning permit or an extension of their liquor licence, Council’s Director Corporate Services can consider a refurbishment of the café instead of a new building.
