MEDIA RELEASE November 2019
Council is calling for expressions of interest for the next term of the Bathurst region Tourism Reference Group. The 12-member committee was first formed in late 2015 to help guide the implementation of the recently adopted Destination Management Plan (DMP) and provide expert tourism industry advice and guidance to Council.
Mayor Bobby Bourke said the former committee had been an integral part of shaping the direction of tourism in the Bathurst region.
“The 2015 DMP provided a five-year plan to guide the development of the Bathurst region as a premier tourism destination and the members of the Tourism Reference Group appointed in 2015 have worked hard to help shape the successful tourism industry of the region today,” he said.
“The term of the current group expires at the end of this year and with the simultaneous adoption of a new DMP, it is an exciting time for tourism in our region. Council is committed to supporting the further growth of the industry which is already worth over $230 million annually to our economy. I encourage suitably qualified community members to lodge their expressions of interest and assist Council in growing the destination”.
Council is looking for individuals with a range of skills and experience working within the visitor economy to represent the diverse industry sectors on the Tourism Reference Group.
Membership positions on the group are voluntary and are for a period of two years, or as vacancies arise.
Further information and application forms for membership of the next term of the Tourism Reference Group are available at www.bathurst.nsw.gov.au Applications close on 6 December 2019.
