Preparing your property for bush fire season
Blue Mountains 22 Nov 2019

To provide additional assistance to residents in the current bush fire season, Council is offering extra free kerbside chipping services in the lead up to Christmas.

You can book a kerbside chipping service via bmccbookaservice.com.au, regardless of how many services you’ve already used this year.

Council will chip your material, making it easier for it to be removed via the fortnightly green bin collection for garden vegetation.

Bookings need to be received by Wednesday, 11 December 2019.

Council also provides the following services year round that can help you prepare for the bush fire season, by removing excess vegetation from your property: •    Additional green bins available for a cost •    Acceptance of garden prunings and leaf litter at the Katoomba and Blaxland Resource Recovery and Waste Management Facilities.

Mayor Mark Greenhill said: “Living in the Blue Mountains, we all need to prepare our properties for the bush fire season each year. Council provides many services to help you prepare, by removing excess vegetation from your property

“As Blue Mountains residents, we need to check in with our neighbours regularly and help each other to ensure we’re all prepared. Community spirit is strong and highly valued in our City and this helps us work together to keep each other safe.”

For those residents who would like to take advantage of the extra kerbside chipping service, older material will also chipped. Normally, there is a requirement that material be less than four weeks old.

“Council usually provides up to two booked waste services to residents per year,” Cr Greenhill said. “This offer means that residents can receive an extra kerbside chipping service, regardless of how many they have used in 2019. They can also get material chipped that is older than four weeks old.”

All other usual requirements for the kerbside chipping service remain.
