Praise for projects

A collaborative study into Hobart’s underutilised buildings has won a major award from the Tasmanian branch of the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA).

The City of Hobart and University of Tasmania produced Speculate: Collaborative Place-Based Research 2012-2019 to identify and document potential key development sites in the city.

The study has received an award for Cutting Edge Research and Teaching, recognising the collaboration between graduate and undergraduate students and professional staff at the City of Hobart over a seven-year period.

In a citation for the award, the project is described as demonstrating originality and innovation for both research and analysis, and visual presentation.

In the Public Engagement and Community Planning category, the City of Hobart received a Commendation for its Hobart: A community vision for our island capital strategic planning project.

The PIA noted that framing the process around questions of local identity provided a powerful approach that facilitated a valuable dialogue with the community.

In a separate awards program, Hobart’s Bridge of Remembrance has received a Commendation at the Australian Urban Design Awards.

Parking changes at North Hobart

The hours of regulated parking at two off-street carparks in North Hobart will be reduced.

The Condell Place and Lefroy Street carparks will have their hours of enforcement reduced by two hours in the evenings, making the regulated hours 8.30 am to 8 pm.

The reduction of regulated hours follows a review of carpark occupancy, which shows that the number of vehicles parked in the carpark

Signage displaying the amended times will be installed at the carparks in the coming weeks.

Annual Plan update

The majority of actions identified in the City of Hobart’s 2019-10 Annual Plan have already commenced, according to a report tabled this evening.

The summary report for the first quarter show that 125 (92 per cent) of the 136 projects and initiatives were under way as at 30 September.

Two key projects – detailed design for the New Town Retail Precinct and preparation of evacuation centre operating procedures – have been completed.

The next progress update will be provided after 31 December.
