'Heritage' by Cai Guo-Qiang

Sunday, December 8, 2019, 5:30 – 10pm In celebration of QAGOMA’s summer exhibition, Water, Council will project Cai Guo-Qiang’s artwork, Heritage, onto the William Jolly Bridge from 4–8 December 2019, from 5:30–10pm each night. Cai Guo-Qiang’s Heritage offers a snapshot of the natural world in a moment of apparent harmony. The pristine setting conveys Cai Guo-Qiang’s idea of a ‘last paradise’ where animals from around the world drink together. The smooth surface of the pool is occasionally disturbed by a single drop of water. The work was inspired by the artist’s visit to North Stradbroke Island, off the coast of Brisbane. Through the exhibition, QAGOMA invites visitors to explore this vital element which sustains all forms of life on earth. From major immersive experiences to smaller-scale treasures by Australian and international artists, the artworks highlight this precious resource and aim to spark conversations about the environmental and social challenges we face today. Water is on display at GOMA from 7 December 2019 to 26 April 2020.
