In response to the recent fire events in the Yeppoon area, Glenda Channells, Counsellor and Family Therapist, is offering a free workshop to anyone who has been directly or indirectly affected by the fires.

“Tapping” (also known as Emotional Freedom Technique) has become widely researched and promoted due to its success in reducing the effects of physical pain, emotional stress and trauma.

Glenda said this simple and easy to learn technique is highly effective to calm the central nervous system and support our ability to deal with the effects of stressors in our lives.

“Participants can learn and practice simple techniques for lessening the effects of anxiety, trauma and other emotional stressors, reducing the intensity and effects of physical pain or energy toning to reduce overall stress and reactivity levels,” Glenda explained.

“I encourage anybody interested to come along and experience for themselves, the joy and relief this workshop can provide.”

Community Development Councillor Jan Kelly said it is important that residents affected by the bushfires know they are not alone during this difficult time.

“The aftershock of such a significant and for many, tragic event, can have a huge impact on those residents directly or indirectly affected. In the weeks and months ahead, as they begin to rebuild their lives, we need to ensure they have access to the support and services they need to get back on their feet as quickly as possible,” Cr Kelly said.

“This particular workshop is a wonderful opportunity to bring the community together to connect in a calm and welcoming space.”
