Sunraysia is embarking on 16 Days of Activism in a bid to stop sexual harassment and gender-based violence in our region.
Respect Victoria 16 Days of Activism – Respect Women Call It Out runs from Monday 25 November to Tuesday 10 December and will see photos of key local agencies in the prevention of family violence popping up across social media.
Councillor for Community Development and Gender Equality Helen Healy said the initiative would help raise awareness about what it means to be an ‘active bystander’ and calling out acts of sexual harassment.
“The Respect Victoria campaign shows that even the smallest acts can potentially stop sexual harassment from occurring,” Cr Healy said.
“Learning to recognise the signs when someone is in danger, and stepping in to help prevent the situation from escalating is important, this is called being an active bystander.
“Active bystanders learn how to recognise and safely intervene in potentially dangerous situations.
“By posting photos of key representatives involved in preventing family violence, along with reinforcing the key message around needing more people to be active bystanders and calling out acts of sexual harassment, we can make a difference.”
