The Orbost Outdoor Pool, opening on December 1, will be the place to be this summer, with an extended season, the introduction of pre-Christmas swimming lessons, and a range of fun programs planned.
Recreation Centres Coordinator Kelly Smart said East Gippsland Shire Council was pleased to be able to offer December swim lessons.
“We received feedback last summer that a December swim lesson program would be welcomed by the community,” Kelly said.
“As a result, we are trialling a four-lesson program on Tuesdays and Thursdays over two weeks starting December 3. These lessons are open to infants, primary students and adults.
“Our very popular term one 10-lesson program will also be offered again from February 4 to March 5, also on Tuesdays and Thursdays.”
Swim instructor and Marlo resident Rebecca Bailey said she was looking forward to providing lessons locally and meeting new families.
“The December lessons will be a great kick-start to the summer swimming season and a great addition to the program at Orbost,” Rebecca said.
“The Orbost Outdoor Pool is a wonderful asset for our community. Given that we are surrounded by water with rivers, beaches and ocean close by, swimming lessons are important for everyone.
“An outdoor heated pool like ours is a great place to learn and develop skills.”
All lessons are 30 minutes in duration, in line with the AUSTSWIM program Council offers at the Bairnsdale and Lakes Entrance indoor pools. Enrol online at Council’s website or call 5155 3333 for more information.
Season extended to April 13:
The gates swing open on Sunday, December 1 with a free swim day from 12–3pm. Bring along your favourite inflatable and join in the fun.
Kelly said the season had also been extended by two weeks, to April 13, 2020.
“The decision to extend the season further capitalises on feedback from the community and the ability for us to keep the pool warm well into autumn due to the solar heating,” Kelly said.
“The extension of the season means the pool will be open through the school holidays and Easter; great for local families and visitors,” Kelly said.
Aqua aerobics has been added to the program on Tuesdays at 5.30pm, starting January 7 and will be a popular activity for all ages. Sessions run for 45 minutes.
“Other summer fun will be inflatable days on Fridays, and we encourage people to bring their inflatables and enjoy some fun or a relaxing float,” Kelly said.
“We’re also sure the free family swim Fridays from 3pm until close every will again be well received.
“We can’t wait to see you!”
Season passes are available and more information is available on Council’s website or call 5155 3333.
