Cardinia Shire Council will soon install around 3.6 kilometres of guardrail on Main Drain South Road to improve road safety along the stretch of road between Evans Road and Little Road in Bunyip.
The works will involve installing the guardrail mostly on the Bunyip River side, with some on the residential side.
Council has been successful in receiving grant funding through the Australian Government’s Blackspot program, which will enable the delivery of the $500,000 project.
The grant application outlined that Main Drain South Road has been the site of several serious vehicle accidents in recent years, and that Council has identified this road as ‘high priority’ for safety improvements.
Consultation has been undertaken with Melbourne Water as manager for Bunyip River, and notification to nearby residents will occur soon.
Council expects construction will commence in mid-December 2019 and works will progress throughout January 2020.
