Final Drought Relief Communities Project Event a Huge Success

A group of farmers and other locals gathered in Hampton on the weekend for the final in a series of Drought Relief Communities Program events.

On Sunday 24 November, local farmer John Lowe welcomed Colin Seis, a regenerative farmer, and 20 farmers, gardeners and other interested locals to a day of learning and building connections.

Colin Seis taught the principles of pasture cropping and sustainable farming and took participants through the experiences that have changed his approach to land management over time and encouraged participants to explore alternatives to some common practices. Local farmers had a chance to talk in depth with Colin about their experiences of living and farming through the drought and to ask questions about his methods.

This followed on from the Farmer’s Long Arvo at the Hampton Halfway Hotel on Saturday 23 November where local residents spent the evening catching up with each other, enjoying a dinner and grooving along to the music. At both of these events Sonia Cox from the Rural Adversity Mental Health Program was on hand to talk with locals and let everyone know about the many services available in the community to deal with the stresses of farming during the drought.
