Learn How to Help a Broken Heart

Would you like to learn how to help a broken heart and potentially save someone’s life?

Then come along to a free automatic external defibrillator (AED) training session on Wednesday 4 December 2019 at the Bellingen Neighbourhood Centre’s Senior Citizens Room from 10:00am to 10:45am.

The AED training session will be conducted by Royal Life Saving New South Wales personnel, and during the 45-minute training session you will be taught how to use an AED and potentially save someone’s life.

Bellingen Shire Council Mayor, Cr Dominic King said that AED’s delivered a powerful electric shock to a heart that was pumping irregularly or too fast to help reset the heart to its correct rhythm.

“They are a fantastic piece of lifesaving technology as you can do no harm with an AED because they will only allow an electrical shock to be delivered to the heart of someone who really needs it and because they are automated, they can be easily used by anyone.”

Cr King said the training sessions would also empower our community to be able to respond to a potentially life threating situation by using a newly installed AED located at the front of the Bellingen Visitor Information Centre located at 29-31 Hyde Street.

“By providing our community with access to an AED 24 hours a day at a central and easily accessible location, we will all be able to respond to a cardiac arrest emergency situation quickly and effectively and give the patient the best chance of survival.”

“Our community AED is also housed in an alarmed cabinet so if you are a first responder, the alarm will also alert bystanders to the situation who can assist by contacting Emergency Services while the victim is being treated.”
