Diversity and quality in the spotlight at Blue Mountains Theatre
2019 proven to be yet another tremendously successful year for Blue Mountains Theatre and Community Hub.
Blue Mountains Theatre hosted over 114 theatre events, achieving over 26,000 tickets sold through the box office and an estimated 200,000+ visitors to the facility. The theatre’s exceptional program of live performing arts provides enriching cultural experiences for residents and visitors to our region, with diverse programs spanning popular contemporary music through to jazz, world and classical music, dance, film, comedy and theatre.
Highlights of 2019 include: Bill Frisell Trio (US), Manran (Scotland), Soweto Gospel Choir (Sth Africa), Martin Barre/Jethro Tull (UK), Seeker Lover Keeper, Eishan Ensemble,The Tap Pack, Marina Prior & David Hobson among many more.
Several of these shows received coveted 3.5-4.5 star arts critic reviews by the Sydney Morning Herald, and the professional reputation of the theatre acknowledged as “one of Greater Sydney’s finest concert halls” (John Shand, SMH November 2019).
This year also saw the theatre present its first dramatic play (Sunset Strip), expand family-friendly programming (Dr Seuss’s Cat In The Hat, The Wacky Science Show, HubCon), and reach average audiences of over 300 for the Morning Melodies monthly seniors concerts.
The community event highlight was Blue Mountains Theatre partnering with tenant Blue Mountains Vietnam Veterans, to present a special fundraiser film screening, hosted by David Stratton with special guests Bryan Brown and Tom Jeffrey.
Next year will see the theatre celebrate its five year milestone with a year-long program of special events.
