Council will investigate exciting opportunities for an iconic hallmark event for our region among a raft of actions outlined in the Events Strategy 2025, which was endorsed by Councillors last night.
The landmark document aims to position the Mildura region as a major events destination with a vibrant year-round calendar of events.
Other actions included in the strategy are reviewing the successful Events Funding and Support Grants program and working with both existing and potential event organisers to ensure they have the capacity to continue and improve their events.
Councillor for Economic Development and Tourism Mark Eckel said the new strategy would increase overnight visitation, amplify destination branding and attract more events to our region.
“We want our region to be an event-friendly destination and our new Events Strategy outlines how we can go about achieving this,” Cr Eckel said.
“It’s the result of an enormous amount of work by our Events team and has been guided by what our local event organisers and residents have told us through a comprehensive consultation process.
“The combination of community workshops, workshops within the various areas of Council involved in major events planning, and external stakeholder groups, has allowed us to tailor the strategy to meet our region’s needs.
“Critically, this provides us with a way forward to help local organisers build or improve their events, as well as put our region on the radars of event organisers at state and national level.
“Our Events team is looking forward to working and collaborating with stakeholders to deliver these exciting plans for our region.”
Development of the new strategy included an audit of current practices, benchmarking across other regions and ‘mystery shopping’ in a bid to obtain as much information as possible.
