South Mildura Sporting Club will call the Mildura South Regional Sporting Precinct (MSRSP) home once it’s completed following a decision by Councillors last night.
South Mildura and Imperials Football Netball Clubs earlier this year submitted formal expressions of interest to relocate to the MSRSP after Mildura Football Netball Club elected to remain at City Oval.
Written applications from both clubs were then subject to a thorough assessment process before a final recommendation was considered by Councillors last night.
Councillor for Recreation and Sport Glenn Milne thanked both clubs for their comprehensive applications.
“Sporting clubs in our region, including football-netball clubs, are run by volunteers, and when you look at the enormous amount of work and detail that went into both applications, and their professionalism, it’s a real credit to both clubs,” Cr Milne said.
“Their members can certainly be proud and we look forward to continuing our positive relationship with both clubs into the future.”
South Mildura Sporting Club President Mark Bresnehan said his club was excited about the opportunities a move to the MSRSP would provide both his club and the broader community.
“This is going to provide amazing opportunities for the South Mildura Sporting Club in terms of growth and membership, and the South Mildura community in terms of the engagement we have planned,” Mr Bresnehan said.
“This new precinct is not just about providing a home to the stakeholders directly involved, it’s going to have a significant impact on the whole community and we’re excited to be part of it and to work alongside Council to get this precinct off the ground.”
Council will continue to work with all three football netball clubs currently operating from the Mildura Recreation Reserve to determine future arrangements once the MSRSP is completed.
