Tour de Cure and Freedom Wheels appointed as official charities of the Bathurst Cycling Classic

A tribe of cancer curing cyclists and an organisation that provides the sheer freedom and joy of cycling to Australians with disabilities have been announced as the official charities for the 2020 Bathurst Cycling Classic. Freedom Wheels and Tour de Cure are the inaugural official charities for the event.

The 2020 edition of the Bathurst Cycling Classic is a year of many firsts, such as a new looped course for the B2B. The Bathurst Cycling Classic was originally run by local charity Rotary, which is still heavily involved in the event.

Mayor Bobby Bourke said Council is very proud to appoint two amazing charities who do incredible work in the community and are an active part of cycling culture.

“Events like the Bathurst Cycling Classic have the opportunity to make a significant impact on people’s lives. To be able to support charities that put a smile on the face of young children in need as well as take on the cancer battle with Tour de Cure is an honour and we look forward to working with Freedom Wheels and Tour de Cure to support their work and fundraising,” he said.

“We ask all of our cyclists to consider raising funds for these cycling-inspired charities via their participation in the 2020 Bathurst Cycling Classic.”

The Bathurst Cycling Classic has partnered with Go Fundraise to create a dedicated Bathurst Cycling Classic website and all 2020 Bathurst Cycling Classic participants can create a personal fundraising page and raise vital funds for charity partners.

The 2020 Bathurst Cycling Classic is to be held on March 14-15, next year. Participants can register at www.bathurstcyclingclassic.com.au and create their own fundraising page to raise funds for Freedom Wheels or Tour de Cure at https://bathurstcyclingclassic2020.gofundraise.com.au/

Freedom Wheelshttps://freedomwheels.org.au/ are custom bikes for kids and adults living with a disability who cannot ride a standard bike. The team of skilled staff and volunteers design, build and deliver the bikes to suit the physical and cognitive needs of the individual so they too can enjoy what cycling has to offer.

“Freedom Wheels are thrilled to be an official charity partner for the Bathurst Cycling Classic,” said Meadhbh Roche, Promotions Coordinator at Freedom Wheels.

“For many kids living with a disability, cycling is a dream which sometimes seems impossible. The fundraising by participants in the Bathurst Cycling Classic will go towards making these dreams come true for some of our kids, of which we currently have 105 on a waiting list.”

The dream of Tour de Cure https://www.tourdecure.com.au/ is a world without cancer. Tour de Cure brings together ordinary people from across Australia to raise funds for cancer research via cycling tours events. These events raise vital funds for world-class cancer projects that make the biggest impact on this terrible disease.
