Chinchilla locals could soon have a new place to exercise their four-legged friends with Western Downs Regional Council currently seeking public submissions about plans for the area’s first community dog park.
Following the installation and success of the Dalby Off-Leash Park, Council received positive feedback requesting a similar facility in Chinchilla, and Council is now progressing with plans to deliver the park.
The community is now invited to give feedback on the off-leash area, which is proposed to be located at Old Bees Park on Tara Road (near Rennick Street), Chinchilla.
Spokesperson for Parks, Open Spaces, and Cemeteries Cr Carolyn Tillman said the new park would give the community more opportunities to head outdoors and make the most of their local area.
“The Western Downs is a fabulous place to live, work and play and we are committed to providing a range of recreational spaces and facilities we know the community will love,” Cr Tillman said.
“The park will give dog owners the opportunity to come together and exercise their pets safely and securely.
“We’re now seeking feedback from the local community about the proposed location and design of the park, and we’re encouraging residents to give their feedback to help us ensure the facility is the best it can be.”
The proposed facility will be constructed similarly to the Dalby Off-Leash Park, with 1500mm high fencing, two gate entry area, dog watering station and double gates for maintenance access.
To ensure responsible dog ownership, the safety of all park users, and zero impacts on nearby residents, strict conditions of entry will also be implemented and enforced.
Community consultation will be undertaken between Thursday, 28 November to Friday, 20 December, which will seek feedback on the proposed dog off leash park location as part of a proposed amendment to the Subordinate Local Law No. 2 (Animal Management) 2011.
Residents can have their say by visiting Council’s website or one of Council’s Customer Contact Centres.
