The City of Ballarat will call for tenders next week for the design and construction of gym equipment at four key locations around Lake Wendouree.
The equipment, which will be an additional facility for the thousands of people who use the lake for their regular fitness routines, will be installed at St Patrick’s Point, Windmill Drive, Durham Point and the start of the rowing course.
Outdoor exercise equipment is common place on beach front paths and parkland in cities including Sydney and the Gold Coast to further activate recreational precincts.
Ballarat Mayor, Cr Ben Taylor said the equipment, expected to be installed by April next year, was part of a much larger vision of the Lake Wendouree Master Plan to improve the functionality and amenity of Lake Wendouree for all users.
Lighting around Lake Wendouree was identified as a priority of the Mater Plan and is being supported with funding from the Andrews government.
Council is continuing to work with Regional Development Victoria (RDV) and Heritage Victoria with the hope that detailed design development plans may be possible by March/April 2020.
“Both Council and the State government are keen to ensure the best outcome for this project, with consideration for potential impact on the lake’s heritage, trees and ecology,” the Mayor said.
