City of Gold Coast has detected asbestos along a section of the foreshore at Palm Beach.
Two sections of the foreshore between the Tallebudgera Surf Club and 25th Ave, Palm Beach will be closed for at least a week.
The foreshore between 27th and 28th Ave will not be closed.
The safety and wellbeing of the community is the City’s number one priority and we take the management of asbestos very seriously.
As soon as the asbestos was identified, the City took measures to cordon off the affected area and alert the public. People are advised to avoid the fenced off area.
Signage will be erected next week.
Specialist contractors have been engaged to remove the asbestos, which is believed to have come from old construction rubble. Once removed, the area will be rehabilitated.
Monitoring will continue in the area as we work to determine what further action is necessary.
We appreciate your patience while we work to remove the asbestos and restore the area.
