Upgraded Cardinia Cultural Centre official opened

With around 80 people attending the official opening and Gallery launch, the highlights for many included a moving Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony by Bunurong Land Council and the dance performance from the young people of Konnext Right Now group.

The family art day attracted a massive 400 people and more than 100 children tested their electronic music skills in a fun, interactive learning workshop in the new artist studios.

The centre has undergone exciting refurbishments over the past year with a number of new facilities added to the state-of-the-art performing arts and function centre, including a new art space, artists’ studios, workshop, amenities, entrance and foyer. The existing carpark was also extended to better cater for the centre’s visitors.

The redeveloped centre will serve the growing need for cultural facilities in Cardinia Shire and other municipalities in outer Melbourne, will contribute to innovation and creativity of community members, and increase wellbeing and connection.

Providing Cardinia Shire residents with the opportunity to experience a wider range of artistic performances, exhibitions and activities, the facility is also a central hub offering the region’s artists a home to foster their creative practice.

The $8.9 million project was jointly funded by Council and the Victorian Government's Growing Suburbs Fund.

The redevelopment came after extensive consultation with the local community both as part of the 2015 Arts and Culture Feasibility Study and through a 2017 consultation round. The study reviewed the available facilities and made recommendations about future facilities that would sufficiently cater to the ongoing needs of the rapidly growing community and the follow up consultation sought community feedback on the draft redevelopment plans.

Residents and arts and culture enthusiasts are encouraged to come see the new facilities. There’s always plenty to do at Cardinia Cultural Centre; attend a morning melody event, hire the venue, see a movie screening during the school holidays, visit the café or take a walk through the Gallery.
