Relax in the park to the sounds of Christmas cheer with the City’s much-loved end of year celebration – Maroondah Carols on Saturday 7 December 2019

The community is invited along to Town Park for some carol singing, fun activities and a visit from a certain jolly man with a white beard and red suit.

Maroondah Mayor Cr Mike Symon said the free annual community event was a great way to spend time with family, friends and neighbours in the lead-up to Christmas.

“The weeks leading up to Christmas are a special time for many of our residents. Maroondah Carols is a fantastic way to start the countdown to 25 December, by getting together and singing some Christmas songs in a friendly, community atmosphere,” Cr Symon said.

The fun starts at 6pm with a host of activities for the youngsters as part of the Eastland Kids Zone. Bring the children along to enjoy free face painting, inflatables, an animal farm, jumping castle, Monster bubbles and photobooth.

There will also be roving performers, food and drink stalls, along with glow-in-the-dark products available for purchase on the night.

Meanwhile, popular television personality and 89.9 LightFM radio breakfast host Lucy Holmes will bring her infectious humour to the event as the master of ceremonies.

The main show entertainment from 7.30pm will feature Stephen Coutts, Lauren Murtagh and Keenan Tee, who will lead the community in a singalong of Christmas carols, before a special visit from the man in the big red suit!

“The highlight of the night will be the arrival of Santa on stage, who will be spreading his own special brand of Christmas cheer for young and old alike and joining in for a song or two with the community,” Cr Symon said.

There will also be an opportunity to have your photo taken with Santa between 6pm and 7pm in the Eastland KidsZone.

“I encourage everyone to get into the spirit and bring along a picnic hamper or indulge in other tasty treats from various food vans and stalls,” Cr Symon added.

At approximately 9.45pm (weather permitting), a stunning fireworks display will light up Town Park.

“As always, it’s important we don’t forget about our canine friends during the fireworks show.

“The loud ‘bangs’ can cause dogs to panic and be frightened due to their acute sense of hearing, so please ensure that your dog is secure in your home or back garden during this event.”

To make the Carols event as accessible as possible, there are pathways that are suitable for wheelchairs and prams, accessible parking on Norton Road and within the Swinburne campus, and our very own Marveloo provides a mobile restroom for people with a disability and their carers.

Make sure you use the hashtag #maroondahcarols on the night!

This is a smoke free and dog free event.
