Parking in the Toowoomba CBD is receiving a shake-up this week with the implementation of several changes to improve conditions.
Toowoomba Regional Council Infrastructure Committee portfolio leader Cr James O’Shea said that as of this week, commuters using the Clifford, Julia, Neil, Chalk Drive, and Annand Street car parks were now able to access weekly tickets via the onsite pay stations.
“In addition to this, Station and Water/Herries Streets car parks will be able to access weekly tickets via the onsite pay stations and attract approximate 20 per cent discount when purchased,” he said.
The weekly parking tickets are available to purchase at the pay stations in their respective car parks. As the pay stations have limited capacity to contain change, please purchase your weekly ticket using a credit or debit card.
“It’s all about improving parking turnover and the overall experience in our CBD for customers, visitors and businesses alike,” Cr O’Shea said.
“This initiative allows for further flexibility when paying for parking and it takes away the stress of needing to pay daily.
“We’re also beginning a temporary reduction to the hourly cost in Central Car park, located on Neil Street, from $1.80 an hour to $1 an hour, for up to three hours to encourage greater use of this underutilised car park.
“We think $1 for an hour is a very reasonable price for parking and leading in to the holiday season, it’s an appropriate time to make this change.
“These new initiatives have all come off the back of extensive consultation Council has undertaken online and in-person with the business community in the Toowoomba CBD.
“Toowoomba continues to grow as a city and as such, it’s important we move with the times.
“We believe these changes will help increase parking opportunities for all and importantly, help to support local businesses, so we continue to see a thriving CBD.”
