Situation
The Gospers Mountain fire is approximately 310 000ha in size with a perimeter of approximately 1050km. The fire continues to burn in the Wollemi, Gardens of Stone and Yengo National Parks, the Newnes State Forest and Parr State Conservation Areas. The fire is burning to the north of Bell, Mt Wilson, Bilpin and Mt Lagoon, south of Bulga, east of Glen Davis, and west of Buckety, and includes local government areas of Hawkesbury, Lithgow and Singleton. The fire is currently being controlled.
The fire is burning to the east of Wolgan Valley and continues to head in a westerly direction. Firefighters are being assisted by heavy plant to create a new containment line. Aircraft will join firefighting operations once visibility improves.
Fire activity in the area has increased. People in the area of Wolgan Valley and surrounds should expect an increase in smoke in the area.
Advice
Continue to monitor conditions. Be ready to take action in case conditions change. Follow your bush survival plan. Drift/State Mine Gully Road, Old Bells Line Road/Clarence Road, and Blackfellows Hands Trail are closed. People with respiratory conditions who are affected by bush fire smoke should implement their health management plan and seek medical advice if necessary. Take precautions, such as staying indoors and closing windows. Newnes campground and Wollemi National Park remain closed due to current fire activity. If you see an unattended fire please call 000.
