Green waste processing contracts awarded

Northern Sands Pty Ltd and Cairns Mulch Pty Ltd have been awarded contracts to process Council green waste for the next two years.

About 20,000 tonnes of green waste is collected each year through Council Transfer Stations, which requires processing and/or removal offsite for reuse to maintain the current 100 per cent diversion from landfill.

Northern Sands will process green waste from the Smithfield Transfer Station, while Cairns Mulch will process green waste from the remainder of Council’s Transfer Stations.

The terms of the contract allow for an option for three extensions of up to 12 months each, at Council’s discretion.
