Good news for Medical Centre
Lachlan Council News 12 Dec 2019

Lachlan Shire Council is pleased to announce it is in the final stages of completing negotiations with Brenshaw Medical to take over the Melrose Street Medical Centre in Condobolin.

This is great news for the local community who had been concerned about Ochre Health closing the vital health facility.

Council received expressions of interest from three separate parties to provide medical services at the Centre and has resolved to progress with Brenshaw Medical.

Ochre Health ceased to provide services from the facility on December 6 and will vacate the premises from December 22, when control is handed back to Council.

Mayor John Medcalf OAM said, “I thank Ochre Health for their recent services and welcome Brenshaw Medical to the Melrose Street Medical Centre when they commence in early January.”

Council said it would like to thank Ochre for providing their service for the past nine 9 years and is looking forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship with Brenshaw Medical, who are currently recruiting doctors to provide medical services for our community.

Brenshaw Medical are looking to retain the services of the locum doctors who have recently been working from the Centre. They are procuring the fixtures and fittings needed to provide the services required by the community.

They are looking to continue all the existing allied health services currently provided by the Centre, including dietician, podiatry, wellness advice and other allied health services.

The Mayor has called on the State and Federal governments to take urgent action and come up with a workable solution to permanently fix the crisis that exists in the NSW health service in relation to the provision of GP services into rural and remote communities.

“Local government does not have the financial capacity to employ doctors or provide health services that are the responsibility of the State and Federal Governments. What Council can do is advocate to State and Federal Governments on behalf of local communities to improve GP services in rural and remote areas”, the Mayor said.
