City of Parramatta Council is inviting the community to attend the opening of the new Wentworth Point Community Centre and Library on Sunday 15 December 2019.
The new building will be officially opened by City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Bob Dwyer at 9:45am, followed by a free family fun day, from 10am to 3pm, where the community can explore the facility and take part in a wide range of activities and workshops.
“We are delighted to announce the opening of this highly anticipated new community facility in Wentworth Point,” City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Bob Dwyer said.
“With a state-of-the-art library, co-working space, study and music rooms, dance studio and more, the Wentworth Point Community Centre and Library will be a vibrant and inclusive place where visitors can read, learn, work and create together.
“Social infrastructure such as this is crucial for any community – particularly growing neighbourhoods like Wentworth Point, which is home to thousands of residents.”
The Wentworth Point Community Centre and Library boasts Australia’s first 24-hour public library foyer, which features the first public library book vending machine in NSW. The building also includes a professional co-working space for small businesses, freelancers and entrepreneurs; and bookable spaces such as a dance studio, learning lab, music rooms, and meeting and function rooms.
This latest addition to the City of Parramatta’s library network is the first newly-built public library in the Parramatta Local Government Area in 33 years and brings the total number of Council-run libraries to nine.
Attendees will have the opportunity to experience these purpose-built spaces at the grand opening event, where there will be free exercise classes for seniors and mums and bubs, an Aboriginal dance workshop, music classes, story time sessions and more.
A series of photographic portraits and videos that feature women from across Parramatta and Western Sydney wearing handmade headdresses and clothing will be on exhibition in the centre’s Creative Space until the end of January. The pieces, which were made by the women and artist Liam Benson at Parramatta Artists’ Studios, showcase and celebrate diversity and cultural identity in Western Sydney.
There will also be live music, ochre face painting and guided tours of the new building.
