Local tourism, jobs, health and koala protection priorities in proposed changes to Local Environment…

As the first step towards realising its vision for the Shire, Wollondilly Council is looking to update local planning controls to align local planning with the Western City District Plan.

The 17 proposed amendments to the Wollondilly Local Environmental Plan 2011 will be considered at the December Council meeting and will provide a starting point to guide the future direction of the area.

The changes aim to enhance the health and wellbeing of communities, attract investment and grow local jobs as well as ensuring greater protection of koala corridors. Mayor Matthew Deeth explained, “Some of the amendments that will benefit the community include making it easier to hold small scale events and to provide outdoor dining without the need for planning approval.”

“The proposed changes would also allow destination weddings to be held on local properties and the introduction of new types of tourist accommodation to grow the visitor economy.”

Subject to approval by Council, the community will have an opportunity to provide feedback on the proposal early next year.

The planning proposal is one of the requirements of the LEP Review Program which has been grant funded by the NSW Government.
