To keep our community up to date with key Council decisions, outcomes and plans; here is a snapshot summary from Council’s Wednesday 11 December 2019 ordinary meeting.
Vibrant communities Council endorsed the townships of Darnum, Labertouche, Noojee and Willow Grove to be the focus of the 2019/20 Placemaking Program. Council endorsed the repurposing of the former Neerim Junction Tennis Court under a lease arrangement to develop a Neerim District Men’s Shed Workshop. Council appointed 17 contractors to the Planning Professional Services Panel to support the delivery of planning services throughout Baw Baw Shire. Council awarded the contract for the construction of the Pharoahs Road Wetlands to McNeil Contracting Pty Ltd for the total sum of $832,037. Council accepted the Integrated Water Management Plan 2019-2024 and supported a grant application to DELWP for $425,000 for funding to deliver the Greening Baw Baw Sporting Grounds – Western Park stormwater for irrigation project. Thriving economy Council agreed on alternate recommendation which includes; endorsing the detailed design for a new synthetic pitch at Baxter Reserve in Warragul, developing and submitting relevant grant applications for funding towards the project and endorsed a staged implementation for components of the overall project should the total funding sought not be received. Projects will be prioritised in the following order: The construction of the playing surface, fencing, and the all abilities compliant access to the pitch/ground The construction of female friendly change rooms The mulching of the embankment The construction of the carpark The construction of spectator shelters Council agreed to purchase the former Buln Buln East Primary School Site with a restriction on title for community use and establish an agreement with the Buln Buln East Community Association Inc for the ongoing maintenance and improvement of this site. Council accepted the Year 1 Action Plan of the Building the Best Years Youth Strategy 2018-2022. Council endorsed the Municipal Early Years Plan 2019-2023. Council agreed to formally name Gallaghers Crossing in Warragul and a reserve in Drouin as Thomas Maddock Reserve. Both names are endorsed by Council’s Place Names Advisory Committee. Council received and noted the community feedback received in relation to the proposed Public Art Policy. Council agreed to extend the contract for the Management and Operation of Baw Baw Aquatic and Leisure Services for a further three years. Council agreed to publicly exhibit the draft Development Contributions Implementation Policy for public feedback for a period of 28 days. Safe and sustainable environments Council awarded a tender to A1 Civil Pty Ltd for a total sum of $1,075,475 for the Neerim South Oval Upgrade. Council awarded a tender to Fulton Hogan Pty Ltd for a total sum of $884,522 for the 2019-2020 Bituminous Resealing Program. Council awarded a tender to Ace Earthmoving Pty Ltd for a total sum of $730,904 for the Sealing of Gravel Roads Program. Council endorsed the Community-Based Emergency Management Engagement Strategy.
