Leitchville Preschool Play Centre opening

Celebrations will be held on Thursday, 19 December at 9.15am to mark the official opening of the Leitchville Preschool Play Centre.

Residents are invited to visit the King Albert Avenue site at this time and explore the new centre, which incorporates the former Leitchville Library building and new Maternal and Child Health facilities into a children’s hub.

“The redevelopment of the Leitchville Pre-School is an exciting project for people in the district,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.

“Pre-school enrolments at Leitchville increased by one quarter this year, with this redevelopment to benefit children in the region for many years to come.”

Completed in April 2019, the project involved replacing the town’s former pre-school building with a combined education and maternal and child health facility.

Demolition of the former pre-school, opened in 1943, occurred in late 2018, with pre-school sessions held at Cohuna whilst the works were being undertaken.

The new building was pre-fabricated offsite, with sections delivered to the King Albert Avenue precinct in March 2019. Internal works were completed in time for the start of Term 2 classes.

“The completed project provides the Leitchville community with a building that meets current standards and will provide services for many years to come,” Mayor Learmonth said.

The $441,000 project, supported by $314,000 from the Victorian Department of Education and Training Annual Children’s Capital Grant program, was part of Council’s 2018/19 Capital Works program.
