City of Parramatta Council congratulates Parramatta Artists' Studios (PAS) for winning a 2019 IMAGinE award in recognition of its successful expansion of artist studio spaces to Rydalmere.

PAS won the Capacity Building, Capital & Sustainability Programs (projects with a budget of $100,001 or greater) category at a recent ceremony at the Powerhouse Museum.

"I congratulate the Parramatta Artists’ Studios team on their hard work and commitment to the ongoing successful operation of PAS, as well as all officers involved in its expansion to the Rydalmere artists’ studio spaces," City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Bob Dwyer said.

"PAS is Western Sydney's home for creative arts and production, supporting hundreds of artists and driving our City's vibrant and diverse culture."

The PAS program offers subsidised studios to artists from Parramatta, Western Sydney and Greater Sydney, to develop their practices and connect them with the arts community.

The Parramatta studio facility opened in 2006, offering 14 studios to artists in the centre of Parramatta’s CBD.

In 2018, PAS embarked on a strategic expansion of its studio facilities in response to a 400 per cent increase in demand for artist spaces.

Guided by the City of Parramatta Council’s Cultural Plan and 12 years of organisational delivery, the Rydalmere studios were opened in March 2019, funded by the NSW Government’s Stronger Communities Fund.

The six new studios provide opportunities for established artists to have 24-hour access, seven days a week, to purpose-built spaces where they can work on major pieces that will be exhibited throughout Australia and around the world.

The IMAGinE awards recognise the outstanding contributions of people who work in museums and galleries across NSW. They are an initiative of Museums & Galleries of NSW, developed with support from Australian Museums and Galleries Association NSW and Regional and Public Galleries of NSW.
