“This morning we confront unconfirmed reports of property impacts in the mounts and this is the news we did not want to hear.
Our Emergency Services have been working hard for weeks preparing.
If property has been impacted we need to be there to support those who have to walk the journey of recovery. The Council I lead begins that process now.
It is my fear, given the fires around our community, that we have very difficult weeks ahead. I am sorry to say that Christmas 2019 may not be free of the tension we all know too well.
It is now time that we all have our Bush fire Survival Plans ready. Check in on anyone living near us who may be alone or less mobile.
We are in this together and we will emerge as we always do.
It may be hard. But this community will make it.
Safety comes first. Have that at the front of your mind.
We need to be conscious of the pressures confronting our exhausted emergency services.
They have many more hard days ahead.
The situation unfolding before us will be tough and the conditions we are experiencing are unprecedented.
Now more than ever, we need to find that wonderful community spirit we are known for in the Blue Mountains.
The little things that divide us in life must fall away. We are united for each other.”
