Councillors and staff bring Christmas cheer to those in need

Liverpool City Councillors and staff are getting into the giving spirit this Christmas, supporting those in need through a range of initiatives.

“Christmas is a time of year when people can gather with their loved ones and reflect on the year that has passed,” Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said.

“For those who might be experiencing social or financial disadvantage, Christmas can be a little tough.

“It’s with this in mind that Liverpool City Councillors and staff have proudly dug deep to help out where they can, bringing some Christmas cheer to those in need at this special time of year.”

Led by Mayor Wendy Waller, Councillors and senior Council staff served up a free lunch to more than 200 people at Liverpool Community Kitchen and Hub on Tuesday 10 December.

Late last week, Council staff placed hundreds of new children’s toys under the wishing tree at Council’s staff Christmas party, with the gifts today donated to Foster Care Angels, an organisation which provides support for children and youth in the NSW foster care system.

Our furry friends have also felt the love, with staff donating unused treats or toys to the Give a Dog a Bone, Keep Kitty Happy Christmas appeal. Donated items will be distributed to animal shelters across Sydney.

“It fills me with great pride to be part of a community that is so willing to support others in need,” Mayor Waller said.

“Events like these help to unite our residents and generate positive social change.

“I would like to thank everyone involved in these initiatives, including my fellow Councillors and Council staff who have so generously given up their time or donated gifts.”
