Families in South West Sydney need look no further than Liverpool’s iconic lakeside celebration to ring in the New Year, with a bonanza of entertainment for all to enjoy.
Light Up the Lake, Liverpool City Council’s free New Year’s Eve celebration, returns to the picturesque Grand Flaneur Beach at Chipping Norton from 7pm – midnight on 31 December.
“With plenty of fantastic entertainment in store, Liverpool’s much-loved lakeside festivities are the place to be on New Year’s Eve for thousands who call the great South West home,” Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said.
“There’ll be amazing live performances, carnival rides and show bags, delicious international cuisine, and the Channel 10 fireworks spectacular at 9pm and midnight.
“The double fireworks display will give families a chance to celebrate together at an earlier time, while those wishing to count down to midnight can stick around and enjoy the buzzing atmosphere.”
Council will also be collecting donations for the NSW Rural Fire Service to support their continued efforts to protect homes and wildlife from bushfire.
“People can look forward to hearing from talented local performers and try a glorious selection of food that reflects Liverpool’s multicultural identity,” Mayor Waller said.
“Souvlaki, dumplings, Bolivian bites and glow-in-the-dark fairy floss are just some of the items on offer.”
Families will be treated to plenty of carnival rides – there’ll be a trampoline ride and watch out for well-loved characters such as Nemo and Dora the Explorer in inflatable form. Traditional rides such as the cup and saucer and carnival games add a touch of nostalgia alongside popular carnival nibbles.
“I look forward to celebrating a grand 2019 with the people of South West Sydney,” Mayor Waller said.
“Light Up the Lake is an iconic event on Council’s annual calendar and is the perfect way for families to welcome the New Year in a safe environment that is close to home.”
Gates at the free, all-ages celebration open at 5pm and live entertainment starts at 7pm. There will be event parking at Chipping Norton Community Centre and Heron Park. Regular shuttle buses will run between event parking sites and Liverpool and Warwick Farm train stations.
