Ballarat (City) 17 Dec 2019

Free parking in Ballarat’s CBD has been overwhelmingly well received and activity across the CBD appears high, even for the pre-Christmas period.

People are generally abiding by parking time limits, with no significant increase in the number of penalties issued.

A reminder that time limits do apply during the free parking period introduced by the City of Ballarat while the transition to Smarter Parking is made.

Everything is on track for a February 2020 roll-out of the City's Smarter Parking Plan.

Three City of Ballarat vehicles have been fitted with Licence Plate Recognition cameras and they are now on the roads in test mode only prior to Christmas.

These vehicles will be visually branded and will display the Smarter Parking logo to ensure people are aware of the revised approach to parking in the CBD and beyond.

All current parking meters have been removed, and the process to install the new technology smart parking meter infrastructure is on track.
